Matt was hired by the matriarch of Haven Pools Mrs. Muriel Bonawandt in 1993. Matt began as a vacuumer, 4 days a week and then did construction and service calls the 2 other days. Going into the Fall he learned how to close a pool which helped him become a service/construction technician the following spring. Haven Pools at that time had 6 full time employees out in the field. Matt went to college and worked 3 -4 days a week while in school. By the time Matt graduated from SUNY Old Westbury in 1998 with a teaching degree, he was running the maintenance department and he was the head mechanic here at Haven. Matt chose to remain with Haven Pool and he has not looked back since.

Matt and his wife Laura got married in 1999 and they had their first daughter Julia in 2000, Tom in 2001, Emily in 2004, and Mikey in 2005. He currently has two children in Masters’ programs, one in a nursing program, and his youngest on his way to serve in the Navy. Matt is turning 49 this year and has been with Haven Pool since he was 19!!

As Haven has grown and changed over the years his skills and responsibilities have also increased. He oversees the advanced hydraulics used in new pool construction and renovations and provides our mechanics and technicians with technical support. He has also taken on renovation sales.  His inspections are thorough, his recommendations are sound, and he will see the project through to the end.

“Matt is always cracking a joke and making the office laugh. But what really impresses me is how after a long grueling day of work he finds the energy to coach or attend all of his kids’ sports teams. He is a great employee and dad!” – Patrick
